Shoulder Strap Stretch

Sit in Vajrasana with a straight spine

Take a strap or piece of fabric that is a couple feet in length. Hold it out in front of you so that your hands are shoulder width apart and elbows are straight.

Keeping your body in an erect position, slowly inhale as you bring your arms straight above your head and then exhale as you gently bring them back behind your head.

If you are unable to keep your arms straight, lengthen the strap or piece of fabric.

Repeat 5 times and then rest in Vajrasana.

  • Relieves tension in the upper back and shoulders
  • Helps open the lungs for deeper breathing
  • Ensures proper drainage of the lymph nodes
  • Removes blockages from parts of the meridians of the gall bladder, spleen, lung and small intestines

Exercise with Others

Having people around who also practice yoga can help to keep your practice going. A friend or family member can be a great motivator. Surround yourself with people that influence you in positive ways.
